Rock Climbing in the Yorkshire Dales!

Rock climbing in the Yorkshire Dales has long been a popular pastime. With it’s many fine Limestone and Gritstone outcrops, mainly towards the south of the area, traditional climbing or bouldering crags are easily accessed.

From the Limestone Crags such as Kilnsey, Goredale Scar and Attermire to the Gritstone outcrops of Ilkley and Almscliff, climbs of the highest quality can be found here. Numerous other smaller outcrops exist where bouldering techniques can also be mastered. Indoor Climbing walls are also available at both Ingleton and Kendal which now boasts its very own indoor Via Ferrata!

There are climbs for both beginners and extreme climbers and all of these are very well covered in various rock climbing guides, especially those of the Yorkshire Mountaineering Club which are available from their site at, http://www.theymc.org.uk/ The club was formed in 1941 and meets on most weekends/Sundays etc. for walking/climbing at local outcrops and climbing walls. Membership is available from 16+ and you can join Here!

www.rockfax.com is a website that has an extensive route database and they also publish rock climbing guidebooks for areas around the world.
