My first introduction to the Three Peaks of Yorkshire, Pen-y-ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m) was, like many others, as a city school child aged 15, being introduced to the further delights of the Yorkshire Dales!! 45 years on, I still have the certificate that proudly states that I completed, THE THREE PEAKS MARCH within 12 hours. Having since run and walked many times over those three fells I can assure anyone that they never get any easier and will always present a major challenge whatever the time of year!
Most people approach the walk from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, ascending Pen-y-ghent , Whernside and Ingleborough in that order. Others prefer to start elsewhere to avoid the usual early morning crowds here. You might also wish to call in and register at the very popular Three Peaks Cafe beforehand!
